MR MASSEY’S GRAVE.

ERECTION OF MONUMENT. WELLINGTON, May 11. Two years have passed since the death of the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, and his grave on Point Halswell is still marked only by the temporary obelisk erected on the day of the funeral. It is probable, however, that a move will be made shortly towards marking the place of the statesman’s last resting place with a suitable permanent monument. The money for the memorial has been in hand for some time, and it now remains for the board, which was set up by legislation

in 1925 to control the burial ground and make provision for the memorial, to decide upon the form of the monument and carry it into effect. The board consists of the Speakers of the two Houses of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice, and a representative of the Massey family. A meeting will take place shortly at which it is expected a. working decision will be arrived at. At a later date it is proposed to erect a statue of the late Prime Minister..in the Parliament House grounds, but this is not part of the duty entrusted to the Burial Ground Board, which is authorised to administer the funds subscribed- by the public and appropriated by Paliament, as distinct from whatever vote may be made on behalf of the Stated

or contributed by the Reform League for the statue.
