PLUNKET SOCIETY.

lhe annual meeting of the Taieri branch of the. Blanket Society was held at Mosgiel on Wednesday, Mrs Arundel presided. There was a falr attendance of members. The annual report was as follows: — Since our last meeting the Royal Society for the Health of Women and Children has suffered a great loss by the death of Lady Our sympathy goes out to Sir Truby King in his sorrow. He has lost a real helpmate, for ever since the society was formed Lady King had taken a keen interest in all the brandies of this work. The quarterly meetings have been held during the year, and as the work amongst the mothers is extending greater interest is being taken in the meetings. We have had lectures during the past months from Miss Kirkpatrick (Red Cross nurse) on her travels at Home and her work in connection with midwifery and ‘pre-natal care.’ Miss Batt also spoke to us on vocational training for young people. Our membership during the vear has been increased to 88. This is the result of just ;. few of our live members pressing the claims of the work, and we realise what could be done if each member took a real interest in the work our nurse is doing to help the mothers in our midst. The Pltmke’ nurse has visited Mosgiel 56 times during the past year, and has 34 new cases and C 6 old cases. She has paid 206 visits to the homes and has had 472 infants and 4f3 adults at her rooms in Mosgiel during the year. In November we started •> Blanket Day in Mosgiel. This we hope to make an annual event. The result of the effort was £24 7s 3d for the funds. It is worthy of note that 25 children other than infants have had the advice of our nurse.”

The report was adopted, and a motion of sympathy was passed with Sir Truby King in his bereavement. ■The election ->f office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs Arundel; vicepresidents—Mesdamcs Walls, Quelch, Reade, Dow. and Shand: secretary, Alts Allan: treasurer. Airs Wilson. The President mentioned the advisability of the nurse giving all her time to Green Island and the Taieri, and suggested that members think the matter ovex - with a view to some action being taken. The president was asked to arrange for a lecturer for next meeting. A vote of thanks was passed to the Baptist Church authorities for the use of the meeting room.
