FIRE BRIGADES.

DEMONSTRATIONS AT GORE GORE, March 9. Fourteen teams were engaged at Gore to-day in the biennial demonstration by the southern districts fire brigades. The delegates were accorded a civic reception yesterday. Then followed a, torchlight procession. Later the annual conference was held at the fire station, Captain White (Mosgiel) presiding. The following officers were elected:— President, Lieutenant J. A. Wallis (Gore); vice-presidents—Captain A. Rusbatch (Hillside) and Captain J. Smeaton (Mosgiel); treasurer, Lieutenant J. A. Mitchell (Mosgiel) ; auditor, Fireman F. James (Gore); secertary, Superintendent W. Coupar (Oamaru). It was agreed to hold the next conference at Queenstown. The Gore Brigade presented a cup for competition among teams which had never been placed in a New Zealand demonstration. Alexandra presented the Coulson Shield. Great interest is being taken locally in the events. The weather was fine for the demonstration. The Gore A team had a very successful day, being unplaced in only one event. It took the Coulson Shield and also the Southern Districts Shield. Mosgiel annexed the Gore Cup for brigades hitherto unplaced at a New Zealand demonstration. The following are the results:-— TWO-MAN COILED HOSE. Wet. Gore A, 40 4-sscc 1 Hillside A. 44sec 2 Gore B, 45sec 3 Fourteen teams competed. HOSE, HYDRANT, AND UNION. Three men. Gore A and Oamaru A (equal), 40sec 1 Hillside A, 41 2-ssee 3 The first two divide the honours. Sixteen teams competed. DISABLED HOSE EVENT. Three men. Gore A, 45 l-ssec 1 Oamaru A, 51 l-ssec 2 Hillside A, 54 3-ssec .. 3 Sixteen teams competed. FOUR-MEN REEL EVENT. Gore A, 45 3-ssec 1 Dunedin City, 47 2-ssec 2 Oamaru, 49scc 3 Nine competed. RESCUE EVENT. Two Men. Gore A. 27sec I Alexandra, 28 l-ssec 2 Hillside A, 29 2-ssec 3 Eleven teams competed. HOSE, HYDRANT, AND UNION. Five Men. Gore A, 46sec .. 1 Hillside, 46 2-ssec 2 Dunedin City, 46 4-ssec 3 HOSE, HYDRANT. AND LADDER.

The Mayor presided, and presented the prizes.
