LINCOLN COLLEGE.

QUESTION OF STATUS. AUCKLAND, February 16. Dissatisfaction with the position in which Lincoln College was placed under the University Act was expressed at a meeting of the New 7 Zealand University Council to-day by Mr H. D. Aclaml (chairman of the Canterbury University College Council, and member of the University Council). Mr ikeland said that the college was in connection with the New Zealand University, but its relations had been changed by the operation of the new Act, and were not defined. Lincoln had been recognised as a School of Agriculture, ami had become affiliated with the University. What was its position now? Several degree students and others who were at a less advanced stage of their course were there at the present time. Quite recently professors of agriculture had been appointed by Auckland and Victoria University Colleges, and the position of the New Zealand Agricultural College with relation to the two northern colleges and its place in the university system would have to be f ”y considered. Clearly the whole matter and the status of the Lincoln College as well demanded most careful consideration. At the present time it certainly appeared that an agricultural university was being established. The Act .would need a great deal of -amendment in regard to this matter. Professor .7. Macmillan Brown (Chancellor) said that something would be don?, and tlie council would receive recommendations from a committee to which it was proposed ot refer the w’hole question. Professor T. A. Hunter (Victoria College) said that Lincoln College was not recognised as a school of agriculture under the Act. That was apparently a blunder in the Act, aryl the committee must be called upon to put it right. Sir Robert Stout: This comes of university commissions and other things which you ought never’to have had. It is just another instance that “the evil that men do lives after them.” The council appointed a committee to consider the position of the New Zealand Agricultural College and Lincoln College under the University Act.
