LABOUR AMALGAMATION.
FEDERATION AND ALLIANCE UNITE. WELLINGTON, February 18. For some time a fusion has been expected between the two chief organisations of Labour and at the meeting of the Trades and Labour Council last night correspondence was received from the Trades and Labour Federation to the effect that, at a meeting held last week, arrangements were finalised for the welding into one body of the New Zealand Alliance of Labour and the Trades and Labour Federation, and intimating that future meetings of the Trades and Labour Council would be held as the District Council meetings of the New Zealand Alliance of Labour. It is anticipated that the next district meeting will be attended by the organisations, which at present are only affiliated with the Alliance of Labour, such as the waterside workers, seamen, tramway workers, and others. An open conference is being convened by the Alliance of Labour on April II to discuss such questions as immigration, unemployment. and the basic wage.
