WEST COAST NEEDS. ?

GREYMOUTH, February 2. A public meeting attended by numerous citizens and the representatives of all the, public bpdies passed a series of resolutions strongly urging upon the Government the necessity of carrying out the promise of the Prime Minister to complete this year the coastal road between Westport and Greymouth. Several speakers pointed out that the settlers had waited 50 years for the road in question, the uncompleted part of which could be walked in 40 minutes. It would reduce the time of the journey between th: two chief towns of the West Coast by more than half, besides opening up the. unsurpassed scenery of Punakaikai. It was decided to send representations to all the Cabinet Ministers and the South of Parliament. The meeting also passed a resolution strongly urging the need of saving the timber industry of the Dominion by an effective tariff upon imported timber, in view of the many idle mills and the hurt, dreds of unemployed timber workers.
