HORSE DRIVERS’ LICENSES.
CHARACTERS OF APPLICANTS- I AUCKLAND, February : 4.- '- Since the zkuckland City Council lias taken over control of-the traffic in: the city area the Police Department has: intimated that it will not undertake. ( a,ny further inquiries in respect of applicants for licenses to drive horsb-drawn vehicles for hire, but will continue to report -Upon applicants for licenses to drive- motor vehicles, as the issue of these is subject to control by statute law. . , At the meeting of the council last evening the chief traffic inspector reported that the deiiartment’s decision to discontinue the investigation work would make it impossible to ascertain the character of an applicant unless the council, had access to the police records. He recommended that representations should be made to the Minister of Justice. ■ The Finance and Legal Committee, in. recommending the adoption of the inspector’s report, suggested that the council should convene a meeting of the Auckland members of Parliament before next session of Parliament with the object of bringing to their notice the whole question of traffic control. • ’ .
