AN IMPUDENT THEFT.

SHOP GIRL TRICKED. WELLINGTON, January 29. The theft of three dozen gas lighters and a safety razor worth £1 4s, the property of the D.I.C. (Ltd.), was admitted by Adolphus ’ Curline, a mechanic, aged 33, in the Magistrate’s Court. to-day. Chief Detective Ward stated that the accused went into the D.I.C. and asked for

the lighters and the razor. When the articles were wrapped up he told the shop girl that he wanted a watch as well, and saying that he had a bad leg, asked her to go upstairs and get one for him. While the girl was away Curline walked out of the shop with the parcel, and yesterday he was found trying to sell the stolen goods. He had previously been before the court for theft, and was wanted on a charge of false pretences at Christchurch, from which town he had abscon* ded while on bail. - Mr W. G. Riddell, S;M., imposed a find of £3, in default 21 days’ imprisonment,.
