TAIERI MOUTH AMENITIES.
BRUCE COUNTY COUNCIL APPROACHED. The residents of Taieri Mouth are fully alive to the good work which has been and is still being done by its Amenities Society which, it appears, is a particularly live body. Already the society • has been responsible for a great improvement on roads in the vicinity of this, beautiful little seaside resort, . but apparently its members are not yet satisfied, and they consider that with a little assistance, they will yet have' the road approaching Taieri Mouth perfectly safe for motor traffic. In addition, the land .is available for a public doman, and this matter also has occupied the society’s attention to such a degree that a deputation consisting of members of the. society 'on Tuesday approached the Bruce County Council and
requested its co-operation in the roadimprovement programme, and the formation of a board to control the affairs of the Taieri Mouth Domain. Mr W. R. Brugh, who acted as spokesman said the particular objects of their visit were the domain and the road. In the former matter it had . been proposed to set up a domain board, in which proposal the society requested the council’s co-operation. He would suggest that some of the members of the society, the member for the riding and the chairman of the council could form a very workable board. The speaker also drew attention to the state of the road leading into Taieri Mouth, and stressed the fact that as a . great number of motor cars was now visiting the district something should be done to assist the motorists in regard'to providing for them a good and safe road and adequate parking space. The society had at present some £3O in hand which ’ he hoped the council would see its way clear to subsidise, and it was also propoed to
approach the Otago Motor Club for assistance. Cr W. Bell, member for the Waihola riding, agreed that portions of the road mentioned by Mr Brugh were undoubtedly in need of attention. The Chairman explained that the riding of which Taieri Mouth was a part was.anything but financial at present, but no doubt Cr Bell might see his way clear to do something after the end of the financial year. In regard to the domain board, ha would move: “That the chairman of the council and the member for Wuihola riding represent the council on the Taieri Mouth Domain Board.” The motion was carried. On the suggestion of the Chairman, the council further agreed to reopen the matter of improvements to the road after the end of the financial year (March 31), when it Was possible that funds might be available to assist the society.
