ALLEGED WIFE DESERTION.
SMART ARREST AT TEMUKA. TEMUKA, Febraruy 5. Yesterday afternoon Constable Southworth effected a smart arrest, resulting in the apprehension of Joseph Christopher Mooney, who is wanted on warrant for wife desertion at Napier. The constable saw a car proceeding south through the main street, and, recognisin'- Mooney as an occupant of the car, took a taxi and gave chase. He caught, up with the car between the traffic bridges over the Temuka and Opihi Rivers, and blocked its progress, and was thus able to make the arrest. This morning Mooney appeared at the Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of failing to comply with the terms of an order to support his wife. The arrears to December amounted to £lOB. and Sergeant Dwan applied for a remand for accused to appear at Napier on February 9- —The remand was granted accordingly.
