A HURRIED EXIT.

BURGLARS INTERRUPTED. BOOTY LEFT BEHIND. WELLINGJTON, January 27. Disturbed by the 'highwatchman, burglars who broke into the premises of Messrs Schneideman and Sons (Ltd.) last night left in such a hurry that one of theih forgot ro take his own waistcoat in which was found the sum of ss. He took one of the firm s waistcoats, however and a pair of trousers. Suit lengths to the value of between £5O and £6O were found in a bundle ready to be taken away. Entrance to the building, which contains the office and workrooms of the firm was effected where a new window was beum put in. On his rounds the nightwatchman noticed that a. protecting iron bar had been removed, and he made a search of the premises. He apparently disturbed the intruders. Going out-side the building, the watchman saw two men standing on the pavement. They looked like seafaring men, and when he questioned them they told him that they were off one of the Home boats.— • As the waistcoat that had been abandoned was of English make this story seemed as if it might be true, and Mr Schneideman, the watchman, and a sergeant of police went to the wharf. They called at one boat, but found that nobody answering to the description of the two men had- been there. About 10 minutes afterwards they spoke to the watchman on another Home boat, and ifcere told that a man with an odd blue waistcoat, answering to the description of that which had been taken by mistake from the workrooms had called arid asked for a meal only five minutes before. He was well out of-the wav by then, however, and nothing has since been heard'of him. _
