PORT OF OTAGO.
APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. At last week’s meeting of the Otago Harbour Board a letter was read from the assistant Australasian manager of the Canadian Government Merchant Marine (Ltd.) conveying on behalf of his organisation its best wishes for the year 1927. The writer took the opportunity to express appreciation of the excellent services rendered by all branches of the board’s staff during 1926. Not only the executive staff, but the entire wharf staff and the pilots, had been most satisfactory in their endeavours to give service. His line had obtained excellent despatch on all its ships calling at the Port of Otago. The letter concluded by saying that the year 1926 had been the best yet experienced, not only in respect of world trade, but also in reference to the line’s New Zealand service, and it was hoped that, with a. continuation of the service and cooperation of the past year, the present year would be as successful. A continuation of such service would certainly result in an increase in the company’s tonnage to and from the port of Otago. The Chairman said such communications as the above were very pleasing. lhe letter was received.
