RAILWAY OFFICERS.
AN IMPORTANT CONFERENCE. , WELLINGTON, January 26. A conference of railway officers, includ- , ing the divisional officers of the North and South Islands, commenced to-day. The Hon. F. J. Rolleston (Acting-Minister ofi Railways) opened the conference. It is understood that the object this year is very important, owing to the regrading of positions which is being undertaken as a, result of the work performed by the Regrading Committee specially appointed some months ago for the purpose of assessing the value of various' divisions in tho department. The Regrading Committee consists of Messrs Bennett (of the Post and Telegraph Department). Mark (of the Public Service Commissioner’s Office), and J Brown (of the Railway The officers attending the conference are Messrs J. Mason (member of the Railway, Board), P. G. Russell (general superintendent of transportation), S. E. Fay. (operating and. equipment assistant), B. Rodie (commercial manager), B. A. Marria (superintendent of staff), R. S. Kemp (divisional superintendent of the South Island), E. Casey (divisional superintendent of the’ North Island), and the district traffic marY agers. x
