HELD IN HIGH REGARD.

NEW ZEALAND AT HOME. AUCKLAND, January 19. Of the impressions formed by Mr Brigham, town clerk of Auckland, on a tour abroad, tvro of the most outstanding are the high opinion held of New Zealand in English financial circles and the regard in which our system of local government is held in Australia. “I found that the opinion of New Zealand is very high indeed,” said Mr Brigham, on' his return by the Marama. “It is much higher than the opinion concerning Australia.” Mr Brigham had the placing of a loan of £500,000 for the city while in London. He said that, hut for the unfortunate reception :f the New South Wales loan, issued a short while previously, the Auckland loan'iWould have been floated on even better’ terms than those actually obtained —namely, 5J per cent., with the issue at £99. It was very pleasant! to hear New Zealand spoken of so highly. 'He would like to know that Australia was similarly regarded.
