There are three women doing rather remarkable work in one of the Buller district sawmills. One, is keeping up steam in the boiler, one is feeding a saw, and another is shovelling away the sawdust. All three are filling the bill most efficiently. Brown rot has appeared in the Wairoa orchards, and with disastrous results to the owners (says a northern exchange).. Early peaches and plums have been badly infected, and in some orchards the whole of the crops have been destroyed. Last year the weather was dry, and consequently there was very little brown rot.
