INCORRIGIBLE YOUTHS.

THEFTS ON WAY TO COURT. AUCKLAND, January 14. The four youths who appeared before Mr Justice Stringer at the Supreme. Court yesterday on 31 charges of breaking, entering, and theft, and who were committed to the borstal institution for three years, came before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. Thomas Henry MTntyre. aged 17, and James Norman Richards, aged 17, were each charged •with stealing articles valued at £5 17s, while M'lntyre and Cyril Patterson, aged 17, and Hector Donald Connolly were charged with stealing three bottles of wine worth 15s. Connolly and Wilfrid Arnold M'Caslin (who was not one of the quartet sentenced yesterday) were charged with the theft of three boxes of chocolates valued at 4s 9d. Senior Detective Hammond stated that while on their way to the Supreme Court yesterday morning to receive their sen-? tences the four accused and M’Caslin went into the Arcadian Tea Rooms and stole the sweets. The wine had been stolen from St. Paul’s Church and had been consumed in Westc» Park. “The sooner they get to the borstal the better, I think,” said Senior' Detective Hammond. “What they require is a little corporal punshiment, for they are as bold as brass, and the borstal has no terrors for them.” MTntyre, Richards,'Connolly, and Patterson were convicted and discharged, as they were going to the borstal institution. The charge against M'Caslin was adjourned until Monday next.
