A CHILD’S DEATH.

KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR. WELLINGTON, January 11. An inquest was held at Wellington regarding the death of a four-year-old bov, Roy Harding McCullough, as the result of being knocked down by a motor in Adelaide road driven by Dr Paget, of Island Bay. The child’s mother said that three children were "laying on the street. She saw the car travelling towards tow’n at a moderate speed on the correct side. Deceased left the others, and ran across in front of the car.

Dr Paget stated in evidence that he approached Chilka street at 20 miles an hour, watching the intersection. Suddenly he saw a child running across a fewfeet from the car. The child was struck by the mudguard. He stopped at once, and took the child to the hospital. He was paying all attention to driving, and. no conversation was going on. After hearing corroborative and the police evidence the jury found that no blame was attachable to Dr Paget in regard to the death of the child M'Cullough, aitf> sympathy with the mother, and the doctor, and added a rider that children should be specially instructed by parents and school teachers in regard to the dangers of crossing busy streets.
