SANDEW CUP CONTEST
RON A TO REPRESENT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, January 11.
Rona has been definitely selected to represent Auckland in ihe Sanders Sup contest. YACHT AND MOTOR BOAT CLUB. Two races were held on Saturday afternoon under the auspices«of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club. Both events were cruising races to Broad Bay, and were keenly contested. The weather was favourable, the wind being fresh from the north-east, with very little sea. Seventeen boats entered for the cruising launch race, and 14 started. This was a record number for the club. The launches varied considerably in size and power, and the starters included Mr P. Drummond’s speed boat Miss Bruce. She showed a remarkable turn of speed as she covered rhe eight miles from the boat harbour to Broad Bay in 15min. Following are the official finishing times, together with the handicaps: — Sea Hawk (20n.in 30sec). 2h lan 13s 1 May (13min). 2h 20m 58s 2 Experiment (ISmin JOsec), 2h 23m 32s 3 Shadow (scratch), 2h 29m 34s .. .. 0 RAVENSBOURNE CLUB RACE. Three races were to have besn held by the Ravensbourne Boating Club on Saturday afternoon, but, as such a large number of motor boats competed in the Otago Y'acht Club’s cruising race to Broad Bay, the-West decided to confine its activities to only one race. Tae rf-ce fc.r yachts (all-comers) and also the motor boat race, will be decided at a later date.
