TWO-SEATER MOTOR BURST.

ILLEGAL USE OF CAR. AUCKLAND. January 14. A two-seater sports model Kissell motor car, which was unlawfully removed from ojmonds street some time after 930 last evening, ran off the Orakei road, on tho casern side of the Orakei Basin, between lu and 11 o clock, and burst into flames, being almost completely destroyed. There are no details as to how the accident occurred, and no sign could be discovered of th e occupants. The wheel track showed that the car which was bound towards the city, travelled with one wheel on the grass tor a distance of about 50 yards before going over the steep bank It then ran down a decline for about another 50 vards, crashing through the fence and coming to rest close to a small creek, without havinjr overturned on the way. The car burned for about two hours, and made a speotaular blaze, which could be seen for a considerable distance. It was noticed shortly before 11 o’clock by a taxicab driver, who made a thorough search or the vicinity, but could find no trace of the occupants. Shortly before midnight another passing motorist stopped and heard a sound wlych he was positive was tho groaning of an injured person. He made a hasty search with matches, and then went home for a torch. Returning a few minutes later, he made an exhaustive survey of the spot, but without result. The car was the property of lan Bannatyne Stewart, of Remuera, and was valued aS £5OO.
