SOUTHLAND A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. INVERCARGILL, September G. There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association w’hich was held in Invercargill on Saturday conjointly with the annual luncheon and presentation of prizes. The president, Mr John Gilkison, occupied the chair, and in moving the annual report referred to the fact that while the association had experienced a record year there was only a surplus of £290 on the year’s operations. While the association did not exist for money-making purposes, it w’as nevertheless essential that sufficient revenue should be forthcoming each year to enable its activities to be continued, and to meet any unforeseen circumstances which might arise at the time of the annual shows. It was true that the association had an accumulated surplus of £IO,OOO, but w’hen it w’as remembered that it had been in existence for 60 years the amount was not excessive. The progress made was a reflection of the excellent support accorded by both the town and country sections of the community, and he sincerely thanked everyone for the enthusiasm and the interest that they had show’n. He congratulated the Southland exhibitors who had been successful in annexing prizes at the >st Royal Show, and stated that it was an indication that Southland breeders had very little to learn from other parts. The report and balance sheet were then adopted. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing twelve months resulted as follows President. Mr John Gilkison (reelected) ; vice-president, Mr James Milne (re-elected); directorate—the Hon. A. F. Hawke, James Fleming, and Mr Hugh S. Irving, Invercargill district; Mr Walter Clark, Woodlands district; Mr A. M. Weir, Eastern district; Mr R. J. Anderson, Winton district; Mr A. Anderson, Western district; Mr Allan H. # Lindsay, Otautau district; Mr W. A. Roxburgh, Northern district. The trophies won at the last summer show w’ere then presented to the successful exhibitors or their representatives.
