DESERTER FROM SHIP. i AUCKLAND, September 10. After working for a year iu the country, Otto Schmidt, a deserter from the German ship Elfrieda. has been ordered to be distorted. He has been appearing in the Police Court fairly regularly while the Minister has been considering his case, and to-day Mr R. N. Moody, who appeared for Schmidt, said the Minister had advreed him that he could not remain in the country. The Magistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt, accowUttgly made an order for his deportation The Accused: Can you send me to Australia? The Magistrate: No. We shall send yon back to Germany, where you cam# from.
