ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCE.
ATTEMPT TO OBTAIN MOTOK CHRISTCHURCH, July 3. Archibald Frederick George Brooks; aged 21 years, who was described as a clerk, was charged with having, with intent to defraud, attempted to obtain from the Nash (New Zealand) Motors (Limited) a motor car valued at £425 by means of false pretences, to wit, that his name was Stretton, and that he was a member of a firm dealing in hides. On the application of the Chief Detective, a remand to Monday was granted. Mr Corbett, for the accused, asked for bail. Bail was allowed in self £IOO and one surety of £IOO. Mr Corbett asked all the suppression -f the accused’s name, stating that such an order had been made when the accused was before the court on Friday on a charge of fraudulently obtaining £5 from Invercargill, but the request was not granted on this occasion.
