Wellington may have its elephant after all (says the Post), for the Zoological Society is endeavouring to obtain one from the Madras Government free of cost, and the City Council, after thanking the society for its efforts, decided to guarantee the cost • of its transport to New Zealand. The Mayor said that as the matter appeared to present no difficulties, the offer should he accepted. A councillor: “We had better have a look at it.”—(Laughter.) The Mayor said the elephant would be a big draw, and would bring in quite a revenue.
