SENSATIONAL BURGLARY.

HAUL OF JEWELLERY. AUCKLAND. Juno 23. A sensational burglarly, apparently the work of experienced criminals, occurred about 5 o’clock this morning in the Monte de Piete loan shop, in the Gas Company’s Buildings, in Pitt street. Taking advantage of the police changing duty and a heavy fog an attempt was made to out through a heavy plateglass window, but this evidently failed. A substance resembling glue was spread over the window, which was covered by thick brown, paper. A large boulder wrapped in cloth wa* then thrown through the window, making a large hole, through which the thieves removed a trny laden with diamond rings, etc They were evidently disturbed. Mr David Bookman, the proprietor, is unable to give an estimate of the value of the rings stolen.
