ADDINGTON MARKETS. $ CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. A feature of the Addington market today was the heavy entry of ewes from the North Island, approximating 10,000 head. The bulk of them were very lowconditioned, and sold accordingly. Fat Cattle.—The market was irregular, but on the average little different from last week, and the fat sheep section met with a brisk demand over the final stages. Store Sheep.—For condition and general quality the entry was the worst of the year, and it was the largest for a midwinter for many years. North Island ewes found buyers at substantially lower values than recently. Good local ewes sold briskly. Hoggets also sold at late rates, but wethers were weaker. Good four and six-toothed Romney cross ewes made to 33s 9d; sound-mouthed crossbred ewe, 22s to 265; low-conditioned and inferior crossbred sound-mouthed ewes, 17s to 20s; failing-mouthed crossbred ewes, 14s 6d to 18s; failing-mouthed halfbred ewes, 20s 6d co 275; good sound and failingmouthed ewes, 26s to 295; failing-mouthed merino ewes, 21s; small two-toothed crossbred ewes, 22s to 26s 6d; crossbred ewe hoggets, 24s 6d to 27s lid; halfbred wether hoggets, 20s to 21s 6d; small halfbred wether hoggets, 17s to 18s 9d; crossbred wether hoggets, 19s to 225; four and sixtoothed wethers, 24s to 26s 6d; two and four-toothed wethers, 20s 6d to 24s 9d. The midwinter slackness continues so far as the wholesale markets are concerned. Wheat has been dribbling in, and one firm has puchased about 1000 sacks of Tuscan at 7s per bushel, which is slightly above the millers’ schedule. r Seed wheat continues to go out in large quantities. There has not been much doing in fowl wheat, and the poultrynien are evidently stocked up in the meantime. The oat market is very dull and very small quaatities have been offering The nominal price is 3s 6d for A Gartons and 3s 3d for B’s, on trucks. Oaten sheaf chaff has been purchased at £5 per ton at country stations. Potatoes are in good supply, and the market is somewhat weaker. Purchases have been made at £6 12s 6d, f.0.b., for July delivery. A further shipment is shortly to be made to Australia. is in request, but very little is offering, the bulk of this year’s crop having been dealt with. Grass seed is dead, and clovers have not yet begun to reach the market. The dealings in live stock have not been on an extensive scale this week. There is still a good demand for hoggets, and ewe hoggets are practically unobtainable. Wether hoggets have been turned over at about £1 per head and ewe hoggets up to 30s. The demand for fat bullocks has been confined to the meeting of butchers’ requirements, and there has not been much alteration in values. Dairy stock of good quality is in request, and young cows coming to profit have been changing hands at satisfactory prices. SOUTHLAND MARKET REPORT. (From Oub Own Cobbespondent.) INVERCARGILL, June 26. GRAIN. Oats.—During the week there has been a good deal of inquiry for oats, and especially Dun’s and blacks, more particularly from Auckland, and a certain amount of business has been booked up at current rates. Northern buyers, and in this respect more especially Canterbury, are making somewhat early counter offers. Invercargill merchants, however, knowing the shortage of A nd B grade oats, show no disposition to accept such offers The local market is firm at 4b 3d, f.0.b., 5.1., tor A grade; 4s for B's, while the equivalent of these figures Is being paid to growers. Business has been done in Dun’s at 4s Bd, blacks at 4s 4d. These prices naturally depend on quality, and all sales aro made on sample. Chaff.—The tendency with growers Is now to hold something In advance of current rates, £4 10s, on truckß, country sidings, for prime quality, sacks extra. This, In view of the prevailing opinion that, as oats will Increase hi value, so also will chaff in the near future. Stocks held by merchants

in th meantime are more than sufficient for the local demand. Wheat.—Anything worthy of the name of fowl feed now comands 6s 6d per bushel, on trucks, country sidings. Really prime quality as high as 6s 9d, while even this has been somewhat exceeded. Ryegrass.—During the last few days inquiries have set in from more than one northern centre. Little business has so far resulted, but the basis of values may be taken as approximately 5s 4d per bushel for 271 b to 281 b seed. Extra well dressed lots of high germination are naturally worth somewhat in excess of this figure. STOCK REPORT. The stock market continues firm, with very little variation from our previous report. The yardings of both fat cattle and sheep are still large, and more than meet the local requirements. Notwithstanding this the prices for prime cattle and good sheep remain firm. The store market is quiet, with prices well maintained, and any lines of sheep or cattle offering are soon quitted.
