ROLL-DOWN PARLOUR.
PETONE COUNCIL’S DECISION. WELLINGTON, June 1. The much-discussed roll-down parlour was again under review by the Petone Borough Council last night, when a depu tation attended on behalf of the owner of a parlour which was recently estab lished, and asked for a recession of the council’s previous decision that he be allowed a fortnight wherein to close the business. The deputation asked that the time be extended a fortnight. Councillors who supported this contended that, the owner of the parlour had been unfairly treated, as he had reason to believe that a license would be granted without question. Cr A. Campbell asked if it were true that scantily-clad and highly-painted females were employed as assistants in such parlours. lie had gathered from various remarks that these females were employed as decoys to entice young men into the parlour. Cr Campbell moved that the previous motion be rescinded. Cr Jacobson objected, and said that to do this would make the council a laugh-ing-stock. The owner of the parlour informed the council that, so far as his place was concerned, the suggestions in Cr Campbell’s remarks did not apply. Eventually Cr Campbell’s motion was lost on the voices.
