Monday. Notwithstanding the fact that eo many visitors were in town for the Exhibition, quite a number of strangers were present at the Winter Show and the D.J.C. Winter meeting. The weather proved frosty, but sunshine made for a good attendance everywhere during the week. The Winter Show was opened on Tuesday, and there were to he seen good exhibits of all kinds, which were shown to advantage in the large motor pavilion at the Exhibition. A wonderful show of fowls, dogs, birds, cats, etc. was to be seen in the Canadian Court. All the various exhibits of live stock were seen to great advantage in this spacious building. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, the Dunedin Jockey Club held its Winter meeting at Wingatui. The days were bright, though cold, and the sun was shining. In nearly every race the fields were good. Owing to it being winter, most of the fashionable women were either in smart fur coats, long coats trimmed with fur, or coats and skirts. Some noticed present throughout the meeting were Mis W. Hazlett, of Invercargill. On Friday afternoon Mrs Laidlaw (Pitt street) gave ar. afternoon tea party for Mrs J. S. Sinclair, when a large number of guests were present. Mrs Laidlaw received her guests in the drawing room, and was gowned in a charming robe of black georgette with bodice almost entirely composed of silk lace. Tea was partaken of in the dining room, waere the table looked pretty with its many dainties and large bowl of red roses in the centre. Some of the guests present were Mrs J. The Women’s Club Cabaret last Saturday night was the rendezvous for a large crowd of enthusiastic young people, Rigby's orchestra again proving an attraction. Chennells, Mrs Jennings, Mrs Cox (Sydney), Mrs Arthur Poulton, and Miss P. Poulton, Mrs Jame Hay, Mrs F. H. Pyne, Mrs Frank Scott, Mrs Walter Moore, Mrs J. B. The children’s fancy dress party in aid of the funds of St. George’s Hospital building took place in Dixieland, which was well filled. Tho music was supplied by Marston’s Band, and the ballroom., which looked bright and gay with the decorations of balloons and snowflakes, was greatly enhanced by the fancy dreescs worn by the children. Tho engagement is announced of Margaret Hannah (Rita), oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. A. Fox, of Christohurch, to William, son of Mr H. Raymond, of the Chathanf Islands.
