A DRUNKEN MOTORIST.
FINE OF £IOO IMPOSED. AUCKLAND, June 2. In the Police Court Mr J. W. Poynton. S.M., fined Henry White Hawthorne, aged 40 years, £IOO for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car on the Kliyber Pass road. Accused’s ounsel said ie could personally testify that his client was a respectable man. He had had a slight sickness, and had overindulged a little in liquor. He was married, with a family. He was in good circumstances, and was making money. A constable stated that accused’s car was standing in the street. Accused and a woman were in the front seat, and another man and another woman were in the rear teat. There was no question about accused’s condition or the condition of the other three persons. Two of tho w r omon were arrested on a charge of drunkenness. The second man escaped.
