EMPIRE TRADE.

I A LEAGUE FORMER. ORGANISATION PROCEEDING, WELLINGTON, June 5. For the purpose of endeavouring to keep trade within the Empire what is known as the Empire Trade Expansion League was initiated some little time back. The Dominion organiser (Mr Foster Kells Mason) was in Wellington recently in connection with the starting of a bianch locally, and now his visit is being followed up by one from Mr W._J. Keyes, vice-president of the league. Next week Mr, Keyes will meet various representative business men in order to place the league’s platform before them, as it is desired to have a committee working in each centre.

The three chief objects of the league, which now numbers over 2000 members, may be briefly summarised as follows: 1. To carry out an active publicity campaign in order to emphasise the importance of buying British goods so as to keep trade within the Empire. 2. To co-ordinate into one harmonious whole the various organisations with similar aims already in existence. 3. To oppose the dumping of German goods in the New Zealand markets. When approached by the league in Auckland, the Prime Minister, whom the league had asked for the Government’s support on the grounds that the work was of national importance, said he was favourably impressed with the league’s ideals, and promised to consider the granting of Government support when the league was firmly established and consolidated.
