A NEW ZEALAND BAND.
PROPOSALS FORMULATED. WELLINGTON, June 3. > Mr 11. Berry, a prominent bandmaster of Australia, who has recently taken up the conductorship of the Wellington Tramways Band, proposes to organise a New Zealand brass band fit to hold its own with bands from Australia, and to carry off honours at the New Zealand contests. A committee has been formed here to provide the finance necessary to carry out his proposal. Mr Berry has engaged Morrell (eupho-. ilium player) and E. Edwards "(drummer), both of the Argyll and Sutherland Band, to take up their permanent residence hero and play with the Tramways Band. B. Tucker, of the Lithgow Band, and champion horn player of Australia, has also been engaged. Mr Berry considers that New Zealand can turn out as good a band as any other country, and hopes to niako the TVamways Band equal to any outside competitor.
