The Taranaki oilfields plant at Ruatoria was put into operation last week, and boring for oil is now steadilv proceeding. Everything is working: smoothly. ALEXANDRA DEEP LEAD. The manager of the Alexander Deep Lead Company (Mr Human) informed a representative of the Alexandra llerald that owing to the suction pump which v.a? recently installed not functioning properly in removing the sand and silt from the claim in the process cf opening up the paddock, he is discarding this means in the meantime, and is reverting to hydraulic power, having obtained the sanction of the borough council to utilise certain borough water for this purpose. Mr Homan is j confident that only a few days will t»» necessary to open up the paddock, after which the electric piunp will be utilised to draiu the claim. DUNEDIN* STOCK EXCHANGE. Friday afternoon. All banking shares are firm on the Dunoara Stock Exchange at present. Bank of New Zealands are the outstanding stock. At tne end of last week they were wanted at 60s <j,l, but to-day numerous transactions were effected at 61s. On 'Change there were hve sales at that price and six sales were re ported. A steady inquiry has been made for Bank of New South Wales at £45, and a sale was effected during the week at £45 ss. Commercials are wanted at 30s 9d, sellers usking 31s 3d. The inquiry for National Bank of New Zealands has improved to £6 Ills, but there are no immediate sellers. National of Australasias are ex dividend The ordinary 'issue are wanted at £l7 10s, and £8 15s is offered for contributing shares Transactions in New Zealand Breweries at ills 3d have been reported. At present 59s is offering, sellers asking 59s 6d. Buyers of debentures have offered 26s 4d. National Insurances are in demand at 77s 6d, sellers asking 80s. The quotations for New Zealands are 39s 6d (buyer) and 40e (seller). The inquiry for South British has improved to 56s 9d, and 53s 3d is offering for Standards. P and O. Deterred Stock is in much better demand, and a». much as £240 has been offered. To-days quotations were £235 (buyer) and £250 (seller). Coal and Oil* are wanted at Ls, at which price a sale has been reported. Westports were ex dividend to-day, buyers offering 37s 3d. Yesterday a buyer quoted at 38e. New Zealand Refrigeratings (paid) are in slightly better demand, to-day’s offer being 17s Gd Sellers asked only 3d more. D.I.C. ords. are wanted at 7a premium. Sales of the £2 paid issue of New Zealand Drugs have been reported at 68a 6d. A steady inquiry is made at 68s. The new paid-up issue is in demand at 61s. New Zealand Paper Mills are ex dividend, sellers asking 21s. Some business has been done m Kawaraus at 7a Gd and 7a 7d. The latter price is offering at present, but sellers will not take less than 7s lOd.
