THE WEEK’S NEWS. THE WAim COMPANY. AUCKLAND, May 4. Tli-i annual meeting of the Waihi Gold Mining Company (Ltd.) i 9 to bo held in London on May jB, and cabled advice has been leseived by the local director of the re suits of the company’s operations for the year ended December Cl last. After providing for taxes (£19,000), depreciation (£9900), interim dividend (£24,800), and adding £15,009 to mine development and reserve, the balance in the revenue account is £47,'00. Out of this sum the directors recommend a finai dividend for the year of Is a share free of tax, payable on May 18, leaving a balance of £22,700 to be carried forward. OPERATIONS AT SLACKS. The Blacks Goldmining Company reports that No. 5 bore has been completed to 105 ft in bedrock. TARANAKI OILFIELDS. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 7. The Taranaki Oldliclds (Ltd.) has decided on the recommendation of the company’s technical experts to discontinue drilling the Tarata well, which has reached 5000 ft. Waihis are wanted at 20s Id, but sellers will not take less than 20s 6d. New Zealand Breweries have improved, and inquiry is now being made at 58s 3d. Sellers will not take less than 595. Staples are also better. A buyer offered 38b 6d to-day, sellers quoting at 40s

National Insurances are on offer at 81s without inquiry. New Zealanda are wanted at 398 4d, sellers asking 4d more. Huddart, Parker ords. are quieter. Buyers are offering 43s Gd. "Westport Coals are slightly better. The present buying quotation is 365, but 36s 3d was offered on one occasion.

New Zealand Refrigerating shares have had a quieter demand. Buyers of the paids offer 16s 6d and of the contributing share* 7s ’od.

Dominion Rubbers are wanted at 50s with a Beller at 53s 6d. Kaiapoi Woollens made a further improvement about the middle of the week, when a sale of ords. was reporteo at 13s 6d. On the same day buyers offered 13s 3d, sellers replying at 13s 9d. To-day the quotations were 12s 3d (buyer) and 13s 9d (seller). Government Stock is in good demand Saturday noon.
