DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Competitions Society was held on Wednesday evening, Mr E. C. Reynolds occupying the chair. Mr J. H. Walker was elected president of the society for the ensuing year. Dr Hall and Mr J. L. Salmond were elected vice-presidents; Mr W. H. Mackenzie hon. treasurer, and Mr E. S. Wilson was re-elected secretary. The following sub-committees were appointed for the ensuing year Musi—c J. Rennie (convener), J. L. Sulmond, A. Ibbotson, E. J. Smith, J. C. 11. Somerville, and Dr A. J. Hall; elocution— Messrs A. C. Hanlon (convener), Colonel Moir, W. A. Fla veil, E. J. Anderson, 11. Brasch ; finance—Messrs J. H. Walker (convener), W. A. Flavell. F. M Shortt, W. 11. Mackenzie, A. Ibbotson; dancing—Messrs W. H. Mackenzie (convener). E. C. Reynolds, J. Rennie, J C. H Somerville; Special Prizes and Programme Committee— Messrs J. C. H. Somerville (convener)., E. J. Smith, E. J. Anderson, F. M. Shortt. A suggestion that tho ballet dancing bo altered to group dancing and divided into two sections, one for competitors under 13 years of age, the other for competitors 13 years and over, was agreed to. It was resolved that for the Irish reel competition competitors must enter in teams of four. The question of the appointment of Judges for iho forthcoming festival was reforred to the various sub-committeos to report to the next meeting. The Secretary reported that* Mrs E. T. Moller had offered a gold medal for tho junior elocutionary championship. The question of instituting a firm’s choir contest was discussed, and the matter was referred to the Music Committee for immediate consideration, with n view to arranging this contest for the coming festival. It was reported that several firms would be willing to enter if such a contest were arranged. Hie Secretary reported that music for the coming festival was to hand, and the elocution selections would be ready very shortly.
