NATIVE TIMBER RIGHTS.

•THE MANGAPEEiII DISPUTE. HAMILTON, May 6. From inquiries made at the head office of Messrs Ellis and Burnard relative to the trouble with the Native owners at Mangapeehi.it was learned that the position was not so serious as was previously reported. In regard to the trouble at the firm’s sawmill, it was indicated by the company’s representative here that the trouble was confined to a very small section of the Native owners, and was brought about by outside influences. Officials of the company who have visited Mangapeehi notified the disgruntled member of the tribe that any remedy for their supposed grievances must be sought through the proper constitutional channel—that is, through the Native Land Court, which will sit at Te Kuiti on Friday. In the meantime the sawmill at Mangapeehi is working as usual.
