A SERIOUS ALLEGATION.

COUNSEL IMPUGNS JURY. WELLINGTON, May 5. There was something approaching a scene in the Supreme Court to-day. Mr Jackson, the solicitor appearing for a prisoner in an assault case stated that the story which a barman had told in the witness box had been concocted. He stated he had been informed that four men on the jury had been influenced against the prisoner. His Honor: Do you suggest that the jurymen have been discussing the case outside the court? Mr Jackson: That is so your Honor. His Honor; llow do you know? Mr Jackson: That is my information your Honor, but I am not likely to state who told me. His Honor: Before making such a serious allegation you should first inquire into its accuracy The Foreman said the jurv. asked Mr Jackson to withdraw his allegation. Mr Jackson: If I am wrong. I am sorry.
