The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 28, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, at London:— The wool sales opened yesterday with good general competition, the chief support for "medium and coarse crossbred coming from the Continent. Compared with last closing rates merino and fine crossbred are from par to 5 per cent, better; medium and coarse crossbred, 5 per tent, lower. The total available for the series is 142,000 bales, of which 48,000 are New Zealand, 63,000 Australian, and 27,000 South American SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, April 29. The week’s wool sales closed with the prices at the highest point of the week, and a strong general demand which was specially keen for lines showing fineness. Greasy merino touched 283 d.
