IMPOSING ON GENEROSITY.
I CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. Edward William O’Connor, a ship’s 'deserter, made several profitable visits to Bt, Bede’s College lost week. He is in ■sol now. O’Connor pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court this morning to • charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, in that he had imposed upon rple with false representations in order obtain money. Canadian Spinner. He deserted from the ship. A few days ago he went out to St. Bede's College and borrowed 10s from one of the priests, saying that he wanted a train fare to Rakaia. The next day he came and asked another priest for £2, telling the same story to him. It was then found that he had borrowed money from other priests there. He was offered work, but did not accept it. “I think he's more fool than rogue/' said the prosecutor. The Magistrate (Mr H. A. Young): He deliberately imposed upon the generosity of the priests.
