A NAUTICAL INQUIRY.

WELLINGTON, Aprii 25. A nautical court of inquiry, over which Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided, sat today concerning the steamer Cygnet touching ground near Waipapa Point on March 31 last Captain Williamson, in his evidence, said he might have been deceived by the atmospheric conditions in getting close in shore, and the heavy floods and winds might have affected the shingle beds. He thought he was rhiee miles and a-half off the land. The court found that the master committed an error of judgment in changing his course, but that he acted in a seam-man-like manner in bringing the vessel safely to port. His certificate would be returned.
