RETURNED SOLDIERS ALARMED. AUCKLAND, April 30. Not cabbages and kings but cabbages and Chinese formed the theme of a vigorous discussion at the annual meeting of the Auckland branch cf the Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening. The White New Zealand League sought the support of the association for its aims and objects. Mr Pascoe said he thought this waa a matter whicl the Returned Soldiers’ Association should suf pert. Regarding Chinese newspapers correspondents had written that if Asiatics were excluded the price of vegetables would be greatly increased. He quoted the example of Liverpool which had reduced its Chinese population of 2500 before the war to 500 to-day. In conclusion Mr Pascoe moved that a remit be forwarded to the Dominion conference of the Returned Soldiers Association expressing alarm at the number of Chinese enterin'’ the Dominion and urging the Government to close the avenues of entry. In seconding the mption, Mr A. C. A. Sex tou expressed the view that the Minister should he “gingered up’’ to enforce the recent restrictions upon the influx of Chinese.
