MURDER IN SOUTH DUNEDIN.
AN EARLY MORNING TRAGEDY. . Between 6 and 7 o’clock yesterday morn-* ing Patrick John Jager, aged about 40, struck his room mate, a very old and close friend Arthur Creagh about the same age, with a bottle, and then, almost severed Creagh’s head from his body with a razor. Both men resided at the Railway Workshops Private Hotel. Following the ciime, Jager went to the South Dunedin watchhouse. To Constable Watkins Jager shouted: “I’ve killed Arty Creagh!” “Yes. sergeant, I’ve killed Arty Creagh !’* Jager declared, when the constable informed 4 Sergeant Murray of the position. “I did , the right thing!’’ Jager added. “If I hadn’t killed him, he would have killed me to-night. “He’s after me for my money. There’s a gang watching me. Fm not worrying, sergeant, as I did tho right thing.” It is alleged that on Sunday Jager (whose damp clothing was found on the murdered man’s bed, covered with sand) attempted to commit suicide by drowning. No sounds were heard in the house when the crime was committed, and the inmates had the first intimation from the police. Jager will appear at the City Police Court this morning charged with murder.
