BRITISH TRADE.

NEW COMMISSIONER ARRIVES. AUCKLAND. April 26. Mr L. Beale, British Trade Commissioner lor New Zealand, was a passenger by the Niagara. He has been British Trade Commissioner in Canada for some years, and he said that Britain had captured a large portion of the Canadian imports. He believed that trade with Britain would be maintained, and that a steadv increase could be looked for. He could only attribute t* is to the more intensive cultivation of the Canadian market by British trade representatives. He did not think that New Zealand need regard Canada as a serious competitor in the butter market, but Canada's export butter trade was increasing, and in a few years’ time she would certainly be a competitor, l.nt whether she would be a serious competitor he would not lika to say.
