IMPERIAL COMMUNICATIONS.

THE BEAM SYSTEM. LONDON, March 4. The Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company have issued a statement having reference to the beam system and inciden-. tally to the Pacific Cable Board. "Our attention,” says the company, "has been called to statements that have been made to the effect that the claims of wireless were fully considered by tho Pacific Cable Board when they decided to lay a second cable across the Pacific Ocean. We think it right to point out thaht so far as we are aware the possibilities of Senator Marconi’s beam system, of wireless ■ telegraphy have not been investigated by the Pacific Cable Board, although this company is at present engaged in building beam stations for the British Government, and in each of the principal dominions, for direct wireless communication between the dominions and this country. The distance to be covered in the case of the Australian station is practically the greatest distance that can be covered on the earth. Guarantees have been given that these stations shall carry out a reliable wireless telegraph service, and it is confidentially anticipated,as the result of Senator Marconi’s more recent experiments, that these guarantees will be exceeded. From recent statements that have been made on behalf of tho Canadian Government it would appear that that Government at least is net satisfied that sufficient consideration has been given to the possibilities of_ beam wireless for telegraphic communication across the Pacific.”
