NEW ZEALAND TRADE.

TWO NEW MOTOR STEAMERS. OTHERS BEING CONVERTED. WELLINGTON, April 19. The New Zealand office of the Shaw, Savill Line has received advice from London that contracts for two motor vessels have been placed with the builders. The vessels will have four-screw Sulzer engines, developing 17,000 brake horse-power and a speed of 17 knots. There will he accommodation for 240 first and 700 thirdclass passengers. It is anticipated that the steamers will be completed at the end of 1927 for the New Zealand trade. In reference to the arrangements by which the Aberdeen line steamers Sophocles and Diogenes come into the New Zealand trade, it is announced that the first (renamed Tamaroa) will sail from England in September next, while the Diogenes (renamed Mataroa) will sail from England in November next, both being converted to oil burners. This is considered a great acquisition to the New Zealand-London passenger trade, -
