DUNEDIN HOSPITAL GUILD.

ANNUAL MEETING. The thirty-fourth atfflv.al meeting of the Dunedin Hospital Guild was held in first Church Hall on Thursday afternoon. Mr David 'lod I presided over a large attend - arce. The annual report stated that the guild hod resumed its winter activities on April 23 with a very good attendance cf former members, while several new workers were ako enrolled. Though from some points of view the 1925 session might be considered humdrum and uninteresting, much good work had oeen accomplished. Ten meetings had been held during the year with an average attendance of 42. The meeting on May 14, owing to the funeral of the late Prime Minister, was abandoned. The guild closed for the year on September 24, when 35 members were present. The membership now stood at 160. The guild was st.II short of machinists. The president would be glad to welcome any woman who could spare a couple of hours oh the mornings of the guild meetings (the second and fourth Thursdays) to assist in preparing the work for the afternoon. The following garments were made and despatched to Mr F. G. Curaming, agent for the Patient and Prisoners’ Aid Society to distributed at his discretion to cases o 4 need: —Seventy nine nightdresses. 74 knickers, 72 vests, 26 chemises, 24 bed jackets, eight dusters, and one washer. The majority of the garments went to the inmates of the James Powell Rest Rome. To the matron of the General Hospital, for the children’s ward, were sent: Three bonnets, 30 jackets. 16 singlets, and three pairs of stockings. The total number of garments made was 336. The guild’s indefatigable vice-president, Mrs Barnett, was granted a year’s leave of absence to visit the Home Country. Miss Adams had consented to take Mrs Barnett’s place during her absence, and the guild was grateful to her for undertaking this extra work. Sympathy wa<* extended to those members who during the year had suffered bereavement. Regret was also expressed at Mre Vanes’ severe Illness, which it was stated would necessitate her retir t from the committee. The mancial position of the guild was satisfactory, the treasurer reporting a credit balance of £3l. Mrs R. W. Glendinning (president) in moving the adoption of the report, said the guild had reason to feel satisfied with the result of the year’s operations. Miss Tennant (matron of the Dunedin Hospital) seconded the motion, and expressed her hearty appreciation of the articles sent to the hospital for the use of patients.

Mr F. G. Curaming said that as agent of the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society he had received 336 garments, the bulk of which had been sent to Mrs M‘Gill, the matron of the James Powell Rest Home, and they had been very wisely distributed by her. He had no hesitation in stating that in Mrs M*Gill they had a wise and painstaking agent. . He always kept a few garments at his office for the use of needy patients who might be leaving hospital and not going to Warrington. This, he thoujiht, was in keeping with the eommitteie’a wishes. He could with safety state that these garments were wisely distributed, and those who were helped were extremely gratefuL Mr Todd said the guild was to be congratulated on the very fine work which it had accomplished during the year. They bad not only kept going but had made progress. He appealed to members to visit the Hospital when time permitted Miss Tennant said she would be pleased to see members ol the guild at any time. The motion for the adopt ion of the report and balance sheet, was carried. The election of office-bearer? resulted as follows:—Hon. president, Mrs Ramsay; president, Mr? R. W. Glendinning; vicepresident. Mesdnmes Barnett and Speddmg*; hon treasurer. Miss N. Callender; hon. secretary, Mrs David Todd; committee—Mesdames John Ash. C. M Greenslade. Stephens. H.
