BIG FIREWORKS DISPLAY

THIS EVENING’S ATTRACTION. The monster fire brigades’ contest, for which 79 brigades from all parts of the Dominion have entered, will begin this evening with a spectacular torchlight procession from the city to the Exhibition Sports Ground where at 8 o’clock a magnificent fireworks display will be opened with a salvo of field bombs. The display is being organised by Mr George Lawrie, and the public wiii be largely indebted for their evening’s nr-er-tainment to some 25 local Chinese residints who have very kindly volunteered to stage the exhibition When Chinese appear m fireworks display there is usually something pretty bright happening, and this evening's display will include features never before seen in Dunedin. The display will include such oveites as rising moons and Roman candles, triangular wheels, aerial maroons, coloured wheels, rainbow wheels and a great variety of rockets and shells, and there is no telling 1 what other attractions the Chinese may have up their sleeves with which to surprise spectators between times. At haifpast 8 the fireworks display will stop temporarily, giving place to a unique illuminated water display with coloured lights and fire which in itself would be well worth making a trip to the Exhibition Sports Ground to see. The fireworks display will be resumed at 9 o’clock and will then proceed to the grand finale.
