Tuesday was the second hottest day experienced in Dunedin this summer. The heat was most oppressive at midday, but the conditions were slightly cooler later in the afternoon, when a very light north-east wind sprang up. The bright summer weather was welcomed by visitors from Auckland and the far north, several being heard to remark that the “weather was simply •glorious after three weeks of almost continuous squalls, rain, and cold weather experienced in Auckland city and suburbs.” The thermometer readings in the city on Tuesday were: Minimum 53 degrees, maximum 77 degrees. The readings in the country districts near Dunedin wero much higher, the mercury at the Wakari School registering 83 dogreee (maximum). The hottest day this summer was recorded on January 27, when the thermometo:: maximum reading was 86 degrees.
