SERIOUS MOTOR SMASH.

SEVEN PERSONS INJURED. ONE DIES IN HOSPITAL. CHRISTCHURCH, February 21. There was a serious motor smash on Pages road on Saturday afternoon, a motor cycle and sidecar carrying four men colliding with a motor car in which were seven adults and an infant. The four motor cyclists were admitted to the hospital, where ono of them, R. Milner, died this morning. Of the others it was reported to-Ray that Calder had been operated upon and is progressing, D. M'Kenzie’s condition is serious, but improved, and J. Hasse’s condition is not serious. The motor car was driven by W. M'Donald, of Swans road, who was uninjured. Five women passengers were treated at the hospital for minor injuries, and were discharged. A male passenger and the infant were uninjured. There was a good deal of motor traffic on the road from New Brighton on Saturday afternoon, including motor cyclists returning from the beach races. It is stated that the motor cycle was travelling at high epeed, and the motor car was travelling at only some 15 houre an hour. The heavily laden motor cycle was unable to negotiate the oorner without running off to the left-hand aide, and it struck the right front spring and wheel of tho oncoming car, smashing both, ‘ besides ehattering the windshield and damaging the radiator. The sidecar was torn in half.
