EXPLANATION WANTED.
AUCKLAND, February 19. Reporting to the Auckland City Coun cil upon the recent conference on motor omnibus control, Mr T. Bloodworth and Mr A. Thompson pointed out that the case for motor omnibus proprietors at the conference had been conducted by Mr B. L. Hammond, secretary of the New Zealnnd Employers’ Federation. Mr Hammond had acted in direct opposition to the interests of Auckland City Council and other tramway authorities who paid annual subscriptions to the Employers’ Association. They suggested that letter of protest be sent to the federi. ti. The Mayor (Mr Geo. Baihlon) noved that the Employers’ Federation be asked for an explanation. Mr Allurn asked whether the council must accept the statement in the report that Mr Hammond was secretary of tho federation. He was not secretary, or even a senior member of that body, but merely i.n employee. Mr Thompson stated that undoubtedly Mr Hammond represented the federation at the conference. The report was amended in the direction indicated by Mr Allum, and a motion asking for an explanation was carried.
