In order to meet the increasing demands for power, both from its own district and from the Otago Central Board, the Teviot Power Board at a special meeting held on Thursday evening decided to increase the capacity of its station by the addition of a 500 k.w. turbine and generator. This unit is double the capacity of the two present machines and will be in commission for the coming winter’s loading. The board will also arrange at its next ordinary meeting for extensions to its present lines to Island Block, Teviot, and Westcott settlements, and tho south-end of Mi lor’ Flat, and hopes to have these districts linked up by next winter. When eight more people hav e joined it the Canterbury Automobile Association will have a membership of 4000. The new members admitted to tho association last night numbered 166, making the total for the year 611, and the grand total 3992. As a result of a visit of a representative of the association, 75 new members were secured in Greymouth, Westport, and Reefton.
