EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL. DECLARATION BY PRIME MINISTER. WELLINGTON, Decamber 5, A banquet was given to Mr W. H. Field, M.P. (Otaki), and hia wife, at which Mr Coates and the Hon. A. D. M'Leod were preeent. Presentation* were made to both gueete in recognition of Mr Field’s 25 year*’ political eervioe. Mr Coatee took occasion to make a few remarks on the political situation. He admitted that cautious expenditure wa* vitally necessary, oommensurate with urgent developmental works. No Government, he said, was more keen to help the man who did manual labour, and equal right# for everyone was the honest aim of the Government. They knew that the temperament of the people of New Zealand would not atsnd for olase legislation. It must be a fair deal for all. The Prime Minister alluded to tha Locarno Pact, with which the Dominion was, he said, in full acoord aa a mova in tha diraction of world happiness, tnd ha paid a tribute to Sir Auatan Chamberlain'* ahsre In Winging it abont.
